JOB DESCRIPTION |
Position: Social Studies / History Teacher
|
Job Goal: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women in accordance with Massachusetts frameworks.Prepare course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements with Massachusetts frameworks;Lecture, demonstrate, and use audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to class; prepare, administer, correct tests, record results, assign lessons, correct papers, and hear oral presentations.

Supervision: Reports to Dean of Academics and/or Director.

Education, Work Experience, and Licensure:
|
Required: Bachelors degree from an accredited four year college or university with an academic major in the content area.Department of Education License as a Teacher in Secondary Education (or will pass MTEL in the first year).Must be highly qualified by the end of the 2008-2009 school year.

Preferred: Two years work experience as a Teacher in Social Studies/History.A master’s degree with a Social Science / History major.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Promotes and nurtures the education of students by planning and tailoring courses of study according to curriculum guidelines and state requirements.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Maintains classroom discipline.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
- Supervises pupils in Tutoring programs and help them with their studies.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the school’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school specialists as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulation.
- Acts as Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119, Section 51A).
- Complies with the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Policy.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by Administration.

Physical Requirements:
The position requires a moderate amount of walking, running, standing, sitting and climbing
stairs and step stool whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in
body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects.
The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds
occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required
use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.

Environmental Conditions:
The occupant is required to work indoors. The regular chemical solvents are toners and cleaning fluids. |
