Position: Math Teacher
|
Job Goal: To develop in each pupil an awareness of the role of Math in economic and social progress; to motivate each pupil to acquire knowledge of math and principles, and skills in problem solving; and to discover and develop special talents of pupils in Math in accordance with the Massachusetts frameworks.
|
Supervision: Reports to Dean of Academics and/or Director.

Education, Work Experience, and Licensure:
|
Required: A bachelor’s degree with a field of Math in education or Engineering.Department of Education License as a Teacher in Math (or will pass MTEL in the first year).Must be highly qualified by the end of the 2008-2009 school year.

Preferred: Two years work experience as a Teacher in Math.A master ’s degree with a Math major in education.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Teaches skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in General Math, Algebra-I, Algebra-II, Geometry,and Calculus to secondary pupils, using the course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
- Supervises pupils in Tutoring programs and help them with their studies.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the school’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school specialists as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulation.
- Acts as Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119, Section 51A).
- Complies with the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Policy.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by Administration.

Physical Requirements:
The position requires a moderate amount of walking, running, standing, sitting and climbing
stairs and step stool whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in
body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects.
The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds
occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required
use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.

Environmental Conditions:
The occupant is required to work indoors. The regular chemical solvents are toners and cleaning fluids. |
